Your First Visit
Welcome to ROAD 2 DENTISTRY, when you arrive at the office you will be provided with new patient paperwork to fill out, or if you already filled the paperwork at home and have completed it, our front desk team will receive it. Then you will be taken to one of the treatment rooms. The team will discuss your treatment goals and any concerns that you may have. Any x-rays needed will be taken and a comprehensive or specific exam will be completed. This usually includes measurement of your gums and a thorough exam of your teeth and mouth in general. From there you and the doctor will talk about any findings as well as treatment recommendations. Any and all questions will be answered and a treatment plan will be made.
Routine Dental Care
Preventive care is the cornerstone of what we do. Routine dental exams and cleanings allow us to detect early signs of issues like cavities, gum disease, or bite problems before they turn into bigger concerns. Using advanced diagnostic tools, including digital X-rays, digital scans, and intraoral photography, help to ensure that your teeth, gums, and jaw are monitored with precision and care.
Digital X-rays help us identify hidden concerns that might not be visible during a standard exam. Intraoral photography and digital scans help us communicate these concerns to you using photographic evidence and understandable terminology. When combined with professional cleanings to remove plaque and tartar, these visits help protect your smile from discomfort and your wallet from more extensive treatments down the road.
Tooth-Coloured Fillings
Even with the most diligent brushing and flossing it is likely that at some point in everyoneโs life they will have a cavity. Your tooth is built like a jawbreaker candy with multiple layers. The outermost layer is the enamel. This is the part that you brush and whiten. It is also the strongest part of the tooth. Next is the dentin layer. After the dentin, on the very inside of the tooth, is the nerve. A dental cavity occurs when the outer layer of the tooth (the enamel) is broken down by bacteria and acid to the point that the next layer of the tooth (dentin) is affected.
To treat a cavity, we remove any of the tooth that was affected so that only the healthy tooth remains. We then restore the tooth with a white filling that matches the color of your natural tooth.
Crowns and Bridges
Over time our teeth begin to weaken and become more susceptible to issues like cracking, discoloration, and decay. Dental crowns can be used to help support and stabilize teeth as well as dramatically improve the appearance.
Some common reasons for needing a crown are:
Very large previous restorations (fillings) leaving little natural tooth.
A tooth that is cracking or breaking or one that has already broken a large piece off.
Covering teeth that are severely discolored. Or have undergone root canal therapy.
A crown preparation involves removing tooth structure to make room for the new full coverage crown of porcelain or zirconia to be cemented or bonded in place.
Root Canal Therapy
Root canal is a procedure that has garnered a bad reputation through movies, TV, and unfortunately for some, personal experience. Let me assure you the purpose of a root canal is to relieve pain and infection, not cause it.
A root canal is needed when something has caused the nerve inside the tooth to either be injured or die. Sometimes this is caused by trauma to the tooth or a large cavity that has reached and infected the nerve. Once the nerve of the tooth is affected, the only way to treat the infection is to remove the nerve and clean the inside of the tooth.
We make sure the tooth is numb then we isolate it to ensure that no new bacteria from the mouth are introduced. We then use specialized instruments and medications to access and clean the inside of the tooth and place a filling material to fill the space where the nerve used to be.
After a root canal a crown is usually recommended to help stabilize the tooth and reduce the risk of the tooth fracturing.
Night Guards
Some patients find that they clench and grind their teeth, especially at night while they are sleeping. This is known as nocturnal bruxism. Some patients are aware that they do this because their jaw and facial muscles are sore in the morning when they awake. Others have been told by a dentist that they probably have this habit due to visible wear to their teeth. Other patients are told by a parent/significant other that they can hear the patient grinding at night.
The risk that nocturnal bruxism presents is loss of tooth structure from wear to the biting surfaces of the teeth, and increased risk of breaking the teeth due to all of the excess pressure.
A night guard is a custom made mouth guard that you wear while you sleep. Making them more comfortable and effective than over-the-counter options. It functions by protecting the teeth from further wear and reducing the risk of breaking teeth.
Making a night guard is simple. We will take impressions/scan of your upper and lower teeth to send to the lab. Once the night guard is made you come back to the office for a try in and care instructions.
Tooth Removal
Sometimes, having a tooth extracted โ or pulled โ is the best option to stop pain and prevent infection from spreading. Teeth may need to be removed if they are badly decayed, broken beyond repair, or causing crowding that affects the rest of your smile. At ROAD 2 DENTISTRY, we provide extractions quickly and comfortably. You will receive sufficient anesthetic and full aftercare instructions, including problems to watch out for.
Also, provides many tooth replacement options to help restore your smile to its previous beauty.
Dental Implants
Dental implants represent the most advanced system for the replacement of missing teeth. While conventional fixed bridges and dentures are still a viable treatment option and choice for replacing missing teeth, dental implants are the best dentistry has to offer when it comes to replicating the feel, look, and function of a natural tooth.
Implants can also be used for fixed bridges as well as help keep special dentures in place for patients who have lost most, if not all of their natural teeth. An implant supported denture allows denture wearers to once again eat their favourite foods and function without worrying that their denture is going to be dislodged at an inopportune moment.
Implants are placed after an evaluation confirms that the bone is stable enough to support the future implant. After the implant is placed, the area heals for 6-12 weeks. Once healing is confirmed our office will take a special impression/scan that allows the lab to build the perfect replacement tooth. The tooth is then screwed or cemented to the implant providing a long term natural looking replacement that you can brush, floss, and use just like your natural teeth. With good oral hygiene and regular checkups, implants can last for decades, making them a long-term solution for restoring both function and appearance.
Dental Care for Children
Getting kids into the dental chair early in life is vital for the long term health of their teeth and mouth. It is recommended that kids be seen by a dentist within 6 months of their first tooth erupting. This may seem early to most parents, but the reasons behind that are:
The more exposure a child has to the dental setting, the less likely they are to be nervous about dental appointments.
It gives the dentist and parents time to discuss the common pitfalls that occur with primary (baby) teeth in kids and sets both parents and their children up for future dental success.
Kids visits tend to be short and fun. Depending on the age of the child, the staff will show the patient the tools that we use and explain what each does before attempting any treatment. First visits may only include a tour of the office, ride in the dental chair, and an exam by the dentist. As the child becomes more comfortable, cleanings, x-rays for older children, and fluoride treatments will be added to the appointment.
Urgent Dental Care
Emergencies happen, and it is usually at the most inopportune times. Kids fall off bikes, people bite into cherry pits, teeth sometimes hurt for no explainable reason. At ROAD 2 DENTISTRY we will make every effort to see you the same day.
